Now Hiring Bus Drivers!

Getting students to and from school safely and on time is what we do. We hold regular safety training to ensure peace of mind as we are entrusted with the most precious cargo!

Kenowa Hills Public Schools needs to increase the pool of school bus drivers available to our school district. Driving a school bus is a part-time job, requiring 2-3 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the afternoon (180 days). In addition to the benefits listed below, bus drivers serve as important role models for the children of our community.

Benefits Include:

  • Starting pay of $22.00 for applicants for regular routes without experience
  • Up to 8 hours of work per day
  • Flexible schedule (ex: AM or PM Routes)

Responsibilities Include:

  • Drives a school bus safely and professionally
  • Performs and properly completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Complies with all traffic ordinances and regulations
  • Supervises students while transporting them
  • Complies with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation
  • Complies with the rules and regulations of the Kenowa Hills Driver’s Handbook
  • Participates in on-site training
  • Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school buses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements Include:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Required Driver certifications in accordance with Michigan law. Must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license with a “P” and “S” endorsement.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record and be able to pass the DOT physical, including drug test.
  • Continuing education classes must be completed as required to maintain licensing certification
  • Must pass the State of Michigan Skill Test and State written test.
  • CPR and first aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems in various situations.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers, parents, and students.
  • Ability to read and understand maps.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education Policies.
