KH Therapy Dog Friends
Saffron, our beloved emotional support dog at the High School, had a heartwarming visit from a very special friend this week—Panko, the emotional support dog from Zinser Elementary! Saffron brings joy to the high school every single day and is loved by students and staff alike. From the moment they saw each other, it was clear just how happy they were to be reunited. Tails were wagging, smiles were everywhere, and the joy was contagious. Moments like these remind us just how powerful the bond between friends can be—especially when one of them has four paws!

Student Services Connection
Student Services on the Move!
Our Student Services team had a busy and exciting week with several field trips! Students had the opportunity to visit three colleges —Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, and Michigan State University in East Lansing. These visits gave students a great chance to explore campus life and start thinking about their futures. In addition, a group of students visited the Early Childhood Center to read to young learners in celebration of March is Reading Month! It was a wonderful experience for both our students and the children they spent time with. Be sure to check out the photos on the following pages to see all the great moments from these trips!

Junior Parents/Families Please Read
Dear Junior Parents/Guardians, Junior year has a reputation for being the most difficult of a student’s high school career, and that is partially because of the junior testing requirements. In the state of Michigan, throughout the month of April, juniors take the Michigan Merit Exam (MME), which includes three separate assessments:

  • The SAT: assesses college readiness
  • The WIN: assesses career readiness
  • The M-STEP: assesses state standards

On Thursday, February 25th, juniors attended a class meeting which provided them with basic information about these tests, the benefits of doing well, and how Kenowa Hills Public Schools’ historic scores compare to other districts in the state.

The goal of this meeting was to help students understand why they should give their best effort on these three assessments. The effort they put into these assessments reflects their integrity and perseverance, and their scores impact how those outside of our district view our school. Furthermore, their scores can help them stand out in a competitive job market or college application pool. These are messages we will continue to reiterate with all juniors as we approach testing season in April.

More information on each of these tests will be provided to both students and parents/guardians. In the meantime, we ask that you assist us in our efforts to support and empower all of our juniors to try their best on these assessments so they can reap the benefits that come with doing well. Together, we can help our students reach their full potential.  Thank you,

New Raptor Visitor Management System
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe and secure learning environments, we are excited to announce the implementation of the Raptor Visitor Management System beginning this school year. This new system will replace our traditional paper sign-in process and provide a more effective way to monitor and track visitors, volunteers, and guests on campus.

When visiting our school, guests will check in at the front office by presenting a government-issued photo ID. The Raptor system will:

  • Instantly screen IDs against public sex offender databases.
  • Maintain an accurate and secure record of all campus visitors.
  • Print a visitor badge with the guest’s name, photo, and date for easy identification while on school grounds.

For those wishing to volunteer, please remember that a district background check is required annually in addition to the Raptor sign-in process. To begin this step, simply bring your photo ID to the front office.

We appreciate your support in helping us strengthen campus safety. With your partnership, we can ensure a safe learning environment for every student.

LEARNING

Our Personal Mastery educational experience has redefined education and has gained attention around the state and nation. Personal Mastery provides your child with personalized attention from teachers. Instead of teaching to a broad group of students without an understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses, Personal Mastery allows teachers to interact with students individually or in small groups to help them better address their weaknesses. In this way, we strive to help your child reach their full potential.
